Family History Day

The Reamstown 250th Anniversary Committee will hold a “Family History Day” on Saturday, February 27th from 8:00 AM to 4:15 PM.  The event will take place at St. Paul’s E. C. Church at 46 East Church St., Reamstown.

This day of free classes is designed both for people interested in starting research on their family history and experienced genealogists.  Topics will include “Starting your family history,” “Using online genealogy databases,” “History of the Ream and other Reamstown Families,” “Genealogical Resources at the Pennsylvania State Archives,” “Research in the National Archives,” and many other topics.

Speakers will include Jonathan Stayer, Head of the Reference Section at the Pennsylvania State Archives, Michael Strauss, a professional genealogist, Beth McCollom, a local historian and Ream family descendant, Milt Haldeman, from the Historical Society of the Cocalico Valley, Karen Buynak, president of the Reamstown Historical Society and Museum, Ken McCrea, a genealogist and author, and Marlene Schuck, director of the LDS (“Mormon”) Family History Center in Lancaster.

There is no charge for the presentations, however a booklet with handouts from all 12 talks is available for purchase at $5.00.  Lunch, prepared by the church, will also be available to participants at a cost of $5.00.  If you would like the handouts and lunch, please call or email Ken McCrea by Friday February 20th before 2:00 PM.  Some extra lunches and handouts will be available on the day of the event, but we cannot guarantee their availability without advance notice that you plan to attend.  If you don't need the handouts or lunch, you are welcome to attend without pre-registering.

Masthof Press, a genealogical publisher and book vendor will have books and other genealogical materials available for purchase.
